Here’s why a Cotswolds staycation rivals international breaks
After many of us have struggled with changing plans and cancelled holidays over the past two years, it’s no surprise that sunshine-filled breaks are back on the agenda this year.
But if you’re looking to stay away from stressful airports and even long-haul journeys, why not opt for a Cotswolds staycation instead? After all, the perfect holiday needs great company, a few fun things to do and a home away from home experience - which is something the Cotswolds can definitely offer. There’s plenty more where that comes from too…
It’s easy to get to
Before you even think about unpacking and popping your swimming costume on, you’ve got to actually get to your destination in the first place. And, wherever you’re coming from, the Cotswolds is super easy to travel to. With train lines connecting all the major towns and cities with London, there’s also an airport in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Oxford and even Cotswold Airport itself which focuses on domestic flights.
Of course, you might be coming by car - and what better way to ensure you can pack as many games and weather-dependent clothes as you want. Again depending on which area of the Cotswolds you’re heading to, you can be there in just a few hours. And don’t worry if the kids get bored as there’s plenty of opportunities for ‘Eye Spy’...
Accommodation is out of this world
Whether heading off on a family getaway or looking for somewhere for a Cotswolds hen do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes finding holiday accommodation. In fact, demand for holiday homes in this area has soared with bookings up by nearly 70%.
At Newton Lodge Country House, we have something for every kind of traveller too - families, hen parties, groups of friends and more. Boasting six acres of private ground, an incredible house with enough space for 20 guests, an outdoor dining area with a hot tub and ample private parking, it really is the perfect place to unwind, celebrate or catch up with each other.
There’s plenty to see and do
The Cotswolds is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for starters - meaning there’s stunning views, wherever you look and whatever time of day you’re out and about. And, when you’re not taking in the views, you can explore some of the UK’s best-loved towns and villages (our favourites being Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden). Bring ancient stories to life, indulge in some retail therapy from small independent brands and enjoy lunch under the sun along the River Windrush.
That’s not all either as the area has lots of walking trails, for two-legged and four-legged guests, and a number of attractions off the beaten path that are just waiting to be explored. Minster Lovell Hall and Dovecote have to be one of the best - as it’s tucked away at the top of the village and often you’ll be the only ones there!
There’s an upcoming foodie scene
Sure, a Pina Colada on the beach might sound tempting but sand gets everywhere doesn’t it?! And, after a day exploring the beautiful countryside and quaint towns and villages that the Cotswolds has to offer, what’s better than finding a spot at one of the award-winning pubs and restaurants nearby? Many of which are dog-friendly too!
Whether you’re in search of a family-run affair with roaring fires or want a Michelin-starred establishment to toast a special occasion with champagne and fine dining, you certainly won’t go hungry. Here, menus feature seafood, locally-reared meat and some incredible wines and beers.
So if you’re swapping your annual international break for a UK staycation, why not see what we can do for you? And if you’re not sold on the Cotswolds, you might be pleased to know that we have a Devon holiday home that has everything you need to bring a little slice of the Mediterranean to you.
